About Hainan Institute of Zhejiang University
Hainan Institute of Zhejiang University (HZJU) is a non-profit public institution jointly established by Zhejiang University and the People's Government of Hainan Province in Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City, Sanya, Hainan, in early 2020.

Guided by the needs of serving national major strategies and Hainan’s development, HZJU leverages the disciplinary strengths of Zhejiang University as a Double First-Class university and the policy and location advantages of the Hainan Free Trade Port. It focuses on two core fields: marine science (deep-sea research) and tropical agriculture (southern crop breeding). The institute builds an innovation ecosystem integrating education, scientific research, and technology transfer, commits itself to technological breakthroughs and industrialization promotion, and strives to develop an innovation and entrepreneurship platform that "takes root in Hainan and radiates across the country".

Its core objectives are to inject scientific and technological impetus into the construction of Hainan as an international education innovation island and a free trade port, support the development of China into a maritime power and a seed power, and explore a development path featuring the in-depth integration of government, industry, academia, research, and application.

About Public Platform for Deep-Sea Technology Innovation (深海科技创新公共平台)
Located in Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City, Sanya, this platform has its teaching, research and public service facilities comprehensively constructed under government coordination. It introduces renowned universities and research institutions with outstanding strengths in marine disciplines, serving as a pivotal experimental carrier for domestic and overseas marine-related universities and research entities to realize "shared access to equipment and resources".

With the purpose of supporting China’s national strategies for developing a maritime power and advancing deep-sea exploration, the platform leverages its geographical advantages and the historic opportunity presented by the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Zone (Port). It further integrates the disciplinary cluster strengths of marine-related universities nationwide.

In the short term, it is proposed to be developed into a base for cultivating high-level talents in Hainan Province and a shared platform for scientific research resources in the marine field. In the long run, it strives to become a national-level science and education platform for marine engineering, a leading research hub in deep-sea science and technology, an incubation base for the integration of industry, academia and research, and a domestically advanced public and international platform for academic exchange and talent cultivation. In doing so, it will support major national strategic needs such as safeguarding maritime rights and interests and boosting the development of the marine economy.
